How to Create an Online Course in Half the Time (Without Losing Your Peace)

If you’ve been thinking about creating an online course, you’ve probably heard the usual advice: pick a platform, outline your modules, record your videos, and launch.

And sure, that’s technically how it works.

But have you considered that the course creation part might actually be the easiest part — once you have the right foundation?

The real challenge? Knowing who you’re serving and what transformation you’re guiding them through.

Skip that clarity, and you’ll spend weeks creating content that doesn’t land, modules that feel

scattered, and a launch that leaves you exhausted and underwhelmed.

But when you start with the right foundation? The course practically builds itself. And with a little help from AI (used wisely), you can cut your creation time in half without sacrificing quality.

Let me walk you through how.

Why Most Course Creators Start in the Wrong Place

I see this all the time with the women I work with — brilliant, experienced, faith-led entrepreneurs who have years of expertise in their heads.

They know they need to package that knowledge into a course. They know it would serve people. They know it could create more freedom in their business.

But they get stuck because they start in the wrong place.

They start with:

  • “What platform should I use?”
  • “Should I do video or audio?”
  • “How many modules should I have?”

And they end up overwhelmed before they even begin.

Here’s what I’ve learned: the course creation process is simple when you have clarity. But without it, every step feels like guesswork.

So before we talk about platforms, AI, or content creation, let’s talk about foundation.

The SHIFTS Framework: Your Foundation-First Method

I teach a framework called SHIFTS — and it’s rooted in the scientific method (because I’m a nerd who loves understanding how things actually work).

This framework isn’t just for course creation. I use it for home projects, client systems, and business strategy. But it’s especially powerful when you’re building something you want to run on its own — like a course.

Here’s how it works:

S: See What’s Actually Happening

Before you create anything, you need to see your ideal client clearly. Not the version you think they are — the version they actually are.

What problem do they think they have? What do they actually need? What language do they use when they talk about their struggle?

This is where most people skip ahead. They say “I’m creating a course for entrepreneurs” or “for busy moms” and wonder why it doesn’t resonate.

Get specific. Write down 3–5 pain points in their words.

H: Hypothesis — Clarify the Core Problem

Once you see clearly, you can form a hypothesis: What is the core problem or opportunity you’re solving?

This isn’t a tagline. It’s clarity.

Example:

  • Vague: “I help people get organized.”
  • Clear: “I help faith-led solopreneurs create simple client systems so they can stop scrambling and start resting.”

Your hypothesis becomes your North Star. Every module, every lesson, every resource should tie back to it.

I: Ideal vs. Reality — Identify the Gap

This is your customer journey map.

Where is your client right now? (Point A) Where do they want to be? (Point B)

The gap between those two points? That’s your course content.

Example:

  • Point A: Overwhelmed solo designer juggling too many tools, manual follow-ups, and scattered processes
  • Point B: Peaceful studio owner with automated onboarding, clear workflows, and time to travel with her son

Everything in between is a module.

F: First Step + Focus

Here’s where simplicity saves you.

You don’t need 47 modules. You need the steps that actually move the needle.

Ask yourself: What’s the ONE thing they need to do first? Then second? Then third?

This is where you prioritize. This is where you protect your peace (and theirs).

T: Timing, Testing, Tweaking

You don’t have to get it perfect the first time.

Build your course. Test it with real people. Watch what works. Adjust what doesn’t.

This is where you give yourself permission to refine as you go.

S: Solution, Systemize, Share

Once it works, you systemize it. You turn it into a repeatable process. You integrate it into your business so it runs with your life, not against it.

And then? You share it with the world.

Now Here’s Where AI Comes In (But Not Before)

AI is incredible. It can absolutely cut your course creation time in half.

But only if you’ve done the SHIFTS work first.

Because AI can’t:

  • Tell you who your ideal client is
  • Clarify your core transformation
  • Map the customer journey
  • Decide what actually matters

You do that. That’s your expertise. That’s your calling.

But once you have that clarity? AI becomes your speed tool.

Here’s how I use it (and how I teach my clients to use it):

1. After “See” — Let AI Help You Analyze Language Patterns

If you have client testimonials, discovery call notes, or survey responses, you can ask AI:

“Read through these responses and identify the top 3 pain points using their exact language.”

It saves you hours of combing through notes and highlighting.

2. After “Hypothesis” — Use AI to Refine Your Messaging

Once you know your core transformation, ask AI to help you say it in different ways:

“I help [ideal client] move from [Point A] to [Point B] through [method]. Show me 5 ways to express this idea.”

Pick the one that feels most like you.

3. During “Ideal vs. Reality” — Let AI Draft the Journey Steps

Give AI your Point A and Point B, then ask:

“What are the key steps someone would need to take to move from [Point A] to [Point B]? Break it down into 6–8 milestones.”

You review it, adjust it, make it yours. But AI gives you a solid starting outline in minutes.

4. During Module Creation — AI Can Expand Your Teaching Points

You know what you want to teach. AI helps you articulate it clearly.

Give it your main points, and ask:

“Take these teaching concepts and expand them into a conversational lesson outline that feels warm and approachable.”

Then you adjust it to sound like you.

5. For Resources — AI Drafts Worksheets, Guides, and Reflection Questions

Need a client workbook? A module reflection guide? An implementation checklist?

AI can create first drafts in seconds based on your module content.

You personalize them, but you don’t start from blank pages.

6. For Launch Assets — AI Writes First Drafts of Your Sales Materials

Once your course is built, AI can help you draft:

  • Your course description
  • Your welcome email sequence
  • Your FAQ section
  • Social media announcement posts

You edit for your voice and faith-centered tone, but the foundation is there.

The Truth About Platforms (And Why Simplicity Matters)

Once you have your content clarity and your AI-assisted drafts, you need a place to host your course.

I recommend two platforms depending on your goals:

GoHighLevel (GHL)

This is my personal favorite for all-in-one simplicity.

GHL lets you:

  • Host your course
  • Automate your emails
  • Manage your sales funnels
  • Handle payments
  • Track client progress

Everything lives in one place. No juggling five platforms. No integration headaches.

If you want a business that runs with you (not against you), GHL is built for that.

Skool

If you want a community-first experience, Skool is beautiful and simple.

It’s perfect for courses that include group support, discussion threads, or ongoing connection.

The interface is clean. The engagement tools are built-in. And it’s easy for both you and your students.

So What’s the “Hard Part” Really?

It’s not the course creation.

It’s the foundation — the clarity, the customer journey, the strategic thinking.

But once you have that? The rest is simple.

And with AI helping you draft, outline, and refine? You can build a course in half the time without losing the heart of what you do.

Here’s What I Want You to Remember

God gave you this expertise. You’ve lived it, learned it, refined it.

Your course isn’t just content. It’s stewardship. It’s you taking what you know and creating something that serves people even when you’re resting.

And you don’t have to do it the hard way.

You don’t have to spend 6 months creating modules.

You don’t have to sacrifice your peace for your purpose.

Start with SHIFTS. Use AI wisely. Choose a platform that protects your simplicity.

And build a course that actually works — for your clients and for your life.
